Dr. Jonathan Sykes is the director of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery at UC Davis Medical Center. Dr. Sykes has been a full-time faculty member of the Otolaryngolgoy Facial Plastic Surgery team since 1989, and has performed more than 10,000 procedures. Dr. Sykes has published more than 85 articles, book chapters, and two textbooks on facial plastic surgery. Dr. Sykes is internationally recognized as an innovative teacher and lecturer in the latest techniques in minimally invasive endoscopic surgery. Dr. Sykes believes “the goal of facial aesthetic surgery is to create balanced proportion of all facial features". It should provide improvement without the ‘operated’ look. With this busy schedule, Dr. Sykes still finds travel time to volunteer.
From Honduras to Russia to China, Dr. Jonathan Sykes has traveled the globe to help hundreds of children have a better outlook on life. For the past 20-plus years, Dr. Sykes has joined an international group of doctors committing themselves to helping children in poor developing areas who are affected by facial deformities. "It's extremely rewarding to repair and restore normalcy to a person," said Dr. Sykes. "It's easy to take for granted the ability to speak until you meet someone who had not been able to their whole life.
