Teaching Conferences
Resident Core Curriculum
The most important teaching activity for residents, the course has a two-year curriculum and meets weekly year-round. This is a comprehensive course covering aspects of clinical and basic science related to orthopaedics. The basic science curriculum incorporates an anatomy workshop, held during September and October of each year. Click here for the current schedule.
Grand Rounds
Held weekly, the faculty presents grand rounds in cooperation with the house staff. The subject rotates by subspecialty and faculty member. Faculty frequently invite guest lecturers. CME credit is available for attendance. For the latest schedule, please click here, or call 916.734.5885.
Problem Hand Conference
Held monthly, participants discuss a variety of topics and patient case presentations pertaining to the hand and upper extremity. More information on the Problem Hand Conference is available here.
Journal Club
Held monthly and sponsored by the clinical faculty at their homes, the club meets in the evening to discuss current orthopaedic journals and articles of interest. The current journal club schedule may be found here.
Resident and Fellow Graduate Symposium
Research Symposium
Beginning in 2009, this one-day conference, once coupled with graduation, will be held in in October, and will focus on a series of research presentations by our students. The symposium also features an internationally known visiting professor.
Research Seminar
Held weekly in the laboratory offices, the seminar provides an opportunity for faculty, graduate students, residents and medical students to discuss research activities and ideas.
Spine Conference
Held monthly, the conference features interesting clinical cases in conjunction with community spine surgeons.
Triage Conference
Held daily and attended by faculty on call, the trauma fellows, the resident on call and all service chief residents, the triage conference reviews orthopaedic emergency admissions and outpatients treated in the previous 24 hours. Participants discuss treatment and triage patients to the appropriate service for follow-up care.
Spine Care for the Primary Care Practitioner and Beyond
This one-day program is designed for primary care providers, family practice physicians, internal medicine specialists, generalists / hospitalists, rheumatologists, physiatrists, spine surgeons, pain management specialists and all associated staff, such as physical therapists, nurse practitioners, occupational therapists and others.
Fingers to Toes Primary Care Orthopaedic Conference
One of the best comprehensive reviews and updates of orthopaedic problems and their complications in the country, this unique six-day course emphasizes an anatomical approach, starting at the fingers and ending at the toes. It is of particular interest to family and emergency physicians, pediatricians and internists who need practical information. Held in June for over 28 years at Fallen Leaf Lake in South Lake Tahoe, California, the conference is co-sponsored by UC Davis Health System's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Office of Continuing Medical Education.
