There are over 90 formal postbaccalaureate programs in the U.S with five major types of programs offered:

  • Single-focus programs in which participants complete science requirements for medical school
  • Dual-focus programs in which participants make-up science coursework and participate in medical research or internships
  • Multi-focus programs that offer, for example: MCAT preparation, help with learning skills enrollment in upper-division science coursework, to improve GPA and to demonstrate potential to succeed in rigorous medical school courses, and individualized assistance with the application process
  • Multi-focus programs that are intended primarily for students from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Conditional admission programs that guarantee admission to medical school if participants achieve a designated GPA
