UC Davis School of Medicine

Curriculum Overview

The UC Davis School of Medicine offers a four-year, comprehensive curriculum leading to a medical degree. The first two years focus on the basic and preclinical sciences and the second two years on clinical experience. To smooth the transition from preclinical studies to clinical training, students are exposed to patient management at the start of their first year. School officials also encourage students to pursue research opportunities and advanced degrees. The Faculty Senate of the School of Medicine establishes the criteria for awarding medical degrees. It determines, designs and governs the curriculum, including the courses taught and contact hours. Each department assumes jurisdiction over the presentation of its courses.
