How to apply
UC Davis School of Medicine participates in the centralized American Medical College Application Services (AMCAS). You can obtain an application via the Web at: http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/start.htm.
Only one set of transcripts needs to be submitted. AMCAS will coordinate the verification and distribution of your application to the medical schools to which you are applying.
June 1 is the first day students may submit applications to AMCAS. It is generally a good idea to submit the AMCAS application no later than August 1. November 1 is the deadline that all materials must be received at AMCAS. We will not grant extensions.
After applying, you may receive a "secondary" request for supplementary information. For more information, see admissions process.
Admission to advanced standing
Currently enrolled students in good standing at an approved medical school in the United States or Canada may apply for admission to the third year of study. To provide the best facilities and clinical resources, however, we must limit the number of students in our clinical clerkships. We, therefore, consider applications for transfer to the third year on a space-available basis only. Contact the Admissions Office in late February to see if any positions will be available for 2006.
Applications for admission to advanced standing must contain a completed application form and the following:
- Official transcripts for ALL academic work — undergraduate, graduate, postbaccalaureate, and medical
- A copy of your AMCAS application.
- A letter of good standing from the dean of your present medical school.
- A letter from a clinical preceptor who can speak meaningfully as to your ability as a medical student, readiness to undertake the hospital-based clinical phase of medical education, and potential as a future physician.
- If accepted, you must pass Part I of the National Board Examination (USMLE).
- Provide a ONE PAGE statement presenting the reason you wish to transfer, and why, specifically, to UC Davis School of Medicine.
All applicants for transfer must meet the usual requirements for admission, as well as satisfactorily complete the equivalent of two years of study at the medical school.
