Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Our Team

Thank you for choosing UC Davis for your care. As an academic medical center that emphasizes excellence in patient care, teaching, and research, you can feel confident that your care will be cutting edge and evidence-based. To ensure the highest quality of care, we use a team approach to help you and your family.

The physicians you see may include only an attending physician or an attending physician working with fellows, residents or medical students.  The attending physician is the leader of your health care team.  You are the most important part of the team, and you will always be actively involved in all decisions about your health care.

There will always be more than one member of your health care team and we would like to introduce them to you:

Front Office Staff

These members of our staff are there to help you check in and check out with efficiency and courtesy.  The staff will try to keep you up to date on whether the doctor is ahead of schedule, on schedule, or running late.  The staff are also here to help you make follow-up appointments after your visit with our office or for any testing that may be needed.

Medical Assistant (MA) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

An MA or LVN will be there with you during the entire visit.  She will check your vital signs (like weight and blood pressure) and get some basic information about why you are here to see the clinician.  The MA or LVN will assist your provider during the exam and help you in any way needed during your office visit.

Nurse (RN)

The nurses are your primary contact when problems arise.  Our nurses are highly trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology to provide answers to your urgent problems when you call or contact us through MyChart.  Our nurses also perform fetal testing at the Ellison ACC location for high risk pregnancies.

Medical Student

Some clinics have a medical student present while the student is rotating on a obstetrics and gynecology clinical clerkship.  Medical students are in the 3rd or 4th year of training and will always be supervised by an attending physician.  Although we pride ourselves on ensuring students are able to learn, it is always your decision if you prefer not to have a student present.  If you do not want a medical student to be part of your care, please let us know.

Resident Physician

A resident physician has completed medical school and is a full-fledged doctor.  The doctor has decided to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology and is learning that specialty during 4 more years of training. Resident physicians are really the core of a team environment which enables us to emphasize creativity, innovation, and integrity while providing your care.  Resident physicians will always be supervised by an attending physician.  Click here to learn more about our Resident Physicians.

Attending Physician

A physician who has completed resident training in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  Our attending physicians serve many roles.  The attending physician may be the only physician you see or may see you in combination with a resident physician or medical student.  The attending physician not only is an expert to meet your health care needs but also serves as a teacher and mentor for the next generation of doctors and specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  It takes a highly talented and specialized physician to be both an excellent care provider and a teacher.  Click here to learn more about our Attending Physicians.

Fellow

A physician who has completed an Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency and is training for an additional 3 years to be a sub-specialist.  Our Department has fellows in two sub-specialties—high-risk obstetrics and gynecologic oncology.  Fellows are specialized junior faculty who are passionate about their areas of developing expertise.  Click here to learn more about our Fellows.

Our patients benefit from this team approach. The emphasis on education and training means careful consideration in both routine and critical cases. Because of their involvement in research, our physicians have knowledge of the latest treatment options and excel in preventive medicine. They bring together innovations and nationally recognized experience to provide you the best care.
