Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility treats patients with reproductive endocrine problems, including amenorrhea and premature ovarian failure, endometriosis and pelvic pain, and habitual pregnancy loss. The Fertility Center offers a variety of medical and surgical treatments such as microsurgery, laser surgery, in vitro fertilization, and gamtte intrafallopian transfer.

Programs and Services

The Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility treats patients with reproductive endocrine problems, including amenorrhea and premature ovarian failure, endometriosis and pelvic pain, habitual pregnancy loss and infertility. Advanced services include... 

  • an andrology laboratory offering computer-aided sperm analysis and other advanced diagnostic technologies
  • one of the largest artificial-insemination programs in northern California with seven-day-a-week service
  • in vitro fertilization (IVF) embryo transfer and gamete intrafallopian transfer (GIFT)
  • diagnostic and operative pelviscopy, including laser surgery
  • tubal reconstructive microsurgery
  • diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy

Current division research studies include investigation of miscarriage in women who have undergone donor artificial insemination, blood tests that can eliminate the need for endometrial biopsy, improved techniques for human sperm freezing and new surgical membranes to prevent adhesions in reproductive surgery. The division is also one of five centers nationwide participating in clinical trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health evaluating several diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to infertility.
