Prenatal Diagnosis Data Base

Principal Investigator: Professor Dena Towner, M.D.

We have been entering all of our prenatal diagnosis patients over the past 14 years into a database and we have over 15,000 entries.

  1. A current study is looking at the additional risk for Trisomy 21 associated with multiple echogenic foci in the fetal heart versus just one focus.
  2. An eventual study will evaluate the risk of IUGR with an isolated single umbilical artery. There are at least 100 cases with delivery here at UCD, so it is time to finalize the data set.
  3. Any fetal finding with an unanswered question likely could be answered from this data set. Other maternal trends also could be assessed, such as percent of women opting for AFP screening rather than amniocentesis.
  4. Maternal questionnaires for a study on opinions or attitudes could be developed to be used in conjunction with the prenatal diagnosis appointments.
