Message from the Chair

Welcome to the University of California, Davis Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.  The Department is a leader in patient care as well as basic and clinical research and medical education.  Most importantly, we are advancing how technology can help women with issues related to pregnancy, gynecologic disease and cancer.  With advanced surgical techniques, including robotic surgery, our physicians are able to provide the most basic and the most complex care.  In fact, UC Davis was rated the #1 hospital for all gynecologic care in the Sacramento region for 2011 by the U.S. News and World Report.  This care includes both basic well-woman care and specialist care.  Our goal is to combine compassion and understanding so that each patient can feel confident that she is receiving the best care. 

Our mission is relatively simple:  the faculty and staff of our Department want UC Davis to be the only place that women would want to come for obstetric and gynecologic health care.  Our challenge is to constantly find new ways of thinking about service because the health care environment is constantly changing.  To meet this challenge, our physicians maintain flexibility and commitment in order to provide the highest quality of care within the changing healthcare landscape.

Our physicians and researchers have a long history of providing new treatments and training techniques for today’s and tomorrow’s leaders.  The Department is part of the UC Davis telehealth network, with the ability to provide care remotely to women all over Northern California and the Central Valley, and throughout the world.  A referral to a medical expert can just require going to your own doctor’s office to meet with a UC Davis Obstetric or Gynecologic specialist over a secure internet camera system.  Our specialists are also out in the community, working alongside the Department’s academic generalists (the University Women’s Health group) with locations in the UC Davis Primary Care network offices, in addition to our main Sacramento office.  Our goal is to make sure that every patient has easy access to health care leaders in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Our recent collaboration with California IVF: Davis Fertility Center, Inc. allows us to provide the best infertility and reproductive endocrinology care in the Sacramento region.  With offices in Davis and Sacramento, we are continuing to find ways to bring our specialty care to the community.

As the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, Davis, I am proud to lead as well as be a member of an extraordinary team of physicians, scientists, residents, fellows, and staff who take great pride in our promise to improve the quality of life for all women.
