Nursing degree programs
Our approach to nursing education
The proposed Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing will foster nursing excellence and educates nurse leaders through a unique, immersive curriculum. The model provides a comprehensive educational experience that couples nursing education with training in business administration, information technology, public health, and evidence-based research. Graduates of the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing will have the skills and confidence required to lead health-care teams in an ever-changing and increasingly complex environment.
Inter-professional teams — At the Betty Irene Moore school, nursing students will learn shoulder-to-shoulder with students in medicine, business, and other disciplines, enriching the educational experience for all students and preparing nurses to lead multidisciplinary teams. In today’s health-care environment, the ability to lead teams of caregivers – from nurses and physicians to social workers and pharmacists – is critical to initiating and implementing the systemic changes that can save lives and improve health.
Novel technology — UC Davis’ nationally recognized expertise in telehealth is just one of many technology advantages that will benefit nursing students at the Betty Irene Moore School. UC Davis has one of the nation’s most advanced “virtual care” environments, with patient simulators that respond to care-giver interventions in much the same way real patients do. From our wireless facilities to our state-of-the-art mock examination rooms, nursing students will have the tools they need to apply technological innovations in ways that improve quality
and access to health care.
Scientific rigor — The Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing will emphasize research and scientific rigor, preparing nurses to think critically, make evidence-based decisions and advance the world’s medical knowledge. At UC Davis’ NIH-funded Clinical Translational Science Center, for example, nurses will have myriad opportunities to engage in research projects aimed at bringing scientific advances to patients’ bedsides.
Leadership preparation — In partnership with the UC Davis Graduate School of Management, nursing students will develop the skills and knowledge to lead public and private organizations that make up our health-care system. At the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, we recognize that nurses must be prepared to manage health-care organizations, to head governmental agencies, and to administer research enterprises.
Cultural competency — With a commitment to addressing disparities in health care and to accommodate increasingly diverse patient populations, the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing will integrate learning experiences that embrace cultural competency throughout the curriculum.
