The Master of Science in Nursing Science and Health-Care Leadership Degree prepares you for leadership roles in a variety of organizations and as nurse faculty at the community-college level.

1. The master’s leadership degree is a direct path to a wide variety of leadership roles including

• Leaders of health organizations and agencies—such as community clinics, trade associations, advocacy groups—improving quality of care and work environments, and advancing health outcomes and health care effectiveness and efficiency
• Community college and other prelicensure nursing faculty—teaching the next generation of nurses
• Legislative and governmental agency staff and leadership developing, influencing and implementing policy to improve access and outcomes (not limited to health agencies but other organizations that provide public infrastructure such as transportation, planning, or parks and recreation)
• Careers across the health care sector, such as insurance, pharmaceutical, hospital, home health, aging support services, adoption services, chronic illness support services and medical equipment industries fostering the integration of excellence in clinical care, management, policy, education and research

2. You can work while earning your degree

• The master’s-leadership program is designed to accommodate the busy schedules of working nurses. Nearly 100 percent of the current master’s-degree leadership students are working nurses.
• Since the school opened in 2010, 100 percent of master’s leadership students graduated

3. The master’s-leadership degree leads to a new position or promotion

• More than 95 percent of master’s-leadership graduates report the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing prepared them to assume leadership roles, work in and develop interprofessional teams, practice cultural inclusiveness, utilize innovative technology and assume teaching roles
• Courses such as Health Status and Care Systems, Community Connections, Leadership in Health Care and Applied Health Informatics provide skills sought by employers
• 95 percent of master’s leadership graduates are satisfied with the program with nearly 73 percent reporting they are very satisfied

4. Eligible to apply for the Health Professions Educator Graduate Academic Certificate Program

• Prepares students to serve as educators in the health professions
• Students gain an understanding of how others learn in order to prepare to teach
• Skills transfer to roles beyond faculty roles including continuing education, patient education, coaching and more
• Graduates eligible to apply for the Certification for Nurse Educators

5. Generous financial support

• Each master's-degree leadership student admitted in the fall 2018 cohort receives a $40,000 scholarship over two years to go toward tuition and fees
• This financial support is limited and expected to decrease in the coming years
