I love what I do because I can go home at the end of every day and say “I made a difference in someone’s life today”. I enjoy the trusting relationships and environment that I create with my patients to bring them the best outcomes possible.
I enjoy working at UC Davis Medical Center because of the autonomy I have in deciding the appropriate plan for my patients and their families. We practice patient centered, relationship based care at this institution which I believe provides the best healing environment possible for each patient we serve. We have an all RN staff because is has better outcomes for patients.
Opportunities for educational and professional growth are available and encouraged by my supervisors and nursing administration.. There is no reason for me to ever be bored here as there are many ways to stimulate my mind and enhance my knowledge and skills – classes to take and/or teach, committee work and research at the bedside. This fall I will have the honor of speaking at the Society for Otorhinolaryngology and Head Neck Nurses national conference. I will be part of a panel presenting the nursing side of a history making surgery done here at UC Davis Medical Center – the second successful larynx transplant in the world. I would not have this opportunity if I was not working at a hospital that is at the cutting edge of medicine.
In addition there are have been many opportunities for me as a staff nurse to become involved in the decisions made that drive how we care for our patients in order to provide the best care possible. I feel that my thoughts and concerns matter and I am able to express my views openly to a receptive administration. I feel that as a nurse at UC Davis Medical Center I matter not only to the patient but to those above me as well. It is a safe learning environment where I may teach and learn every day. I am proud to say that I am a nurse at UC Davis Medical Center.
