I have worked in the Burn Unit for 13 years. Working in the Burn Unit is both challenging and rewarding. It is challenging because of the complexities involved in the care of a critically burned patient, this can include very long dressing changes. It is rewarding when some of our patients return to the unit after being discharged to thank us for saving their life.

I greatly appreciate the autonomy we have as nurses in the Burn Unit and in the other units, which I have worked in at UC Davis. I enjoy precepting nursing students, many of whom have been hired here. I feel fortunate and privileged to have worked with so many outstanding nurses.
