Stephanie Dowden, R.N., F.N.P.-B.C. (Nurse Practitioner Heart Center)
|I am a nurse practitioner working in the heart center. I have worked in cardiology for 7 years and I enjoy it very much. I especially enjoy working in cardiology at UC Davis because there is a great team to collaborate with from the schedulers, nurses, lab, EKG technicians, pharmacy, to the physicians. I enjoy having the opportunity to attend cardiology conferences that are available at no cost 2-3 times a week. With UC Davis being a teaching hospital, I get the opportunity to learn as the physicians teach the fellows, residents, and med students. I also have the opportunity to assist in the teaching of nurses, med students, residents, and fellows.
UC Davis supports me by providing me with reimbursement for being specialty certified. I am also in the Air Force Reserves and the university is strongly supportive of my involvement with the military.
UC Davis offers nurses the opportunity to be part of Professional Governance. I am fortunate to be part of our unit-based practice council, which allows me a voice to make things better for our department which in turn allows us to provide better care for our patients. I am also a member of the clinical practice committee which allows us to make improvements in patient care in units throughout the hospital. I am also a Magnet Champion. In being a Magnet Champion, I hope to share all the benefits of being a UC Davis nurse with other nurses. I became a nurse, many years ago, because I wanted to take care of people, make them feel better, make sure they are protected and their wishes are respected. This is why I choose to work as a nurse at UC Davis.
