UC DAVIS SCHOOL OF MEDICINE TO MOVE FROM DAVIS TO SACRAMENTO

February 21, 2005

WHAT: The medical school is moving its primary teaching programs to Sacramento to a new 120,000-square-foot facility that will be located at the heart of the medical center campus at 45th and X streets. The $40 million facility will replace outdated classrooms, nearly double the space for library services, and provide a central location where students, faculty and research partners can collaborate and be immersed in the art and science of medicine.

WHO: UC Davis leadership along with 200 legislators, business leaders, students, residents, faculty and other distinguished guests celebrate the groundbreaking for the new, state-of-the-art education and library building.

The late Congressman Robert Matsui, who was a staunch supporter of the university and medical center throughout his years in office, secured $700,000 in federal funds to begin construction of the new education building. Mrs. Doris Matsui will be present to witness the fulfillment of her husband’s commitment to the school.
