SAME DAY SURGERY CENTER EASES PRESSURE ON CALIFORNIA’S BUSIEST OPERATING ROOMS 
November 30, 2007 —  Three weeks after its opening, UC Davis Health System’s new Same Day Surgery Center is meeting expectations set for the new facility: reducing demands on the hospital’s main operating rooms by providing an outpatient setting for low-risk, high-volume and noninvasive surgeries.

FINAL BEAM PLACED ON NEW MERCY AND UC DAVIS OUTPATIENT FACILITY IN ROCKLIN 
November 28, 2007 —  The final steel beam has been placed on the new Placer Center for Health, marking a milestone in construction for the 66,000-square-foot outpatient facility jointly operated by Catholic Healthcare West, which locally operates Mercy hospitals, and UC Davis Health System.

UC RECEIVES $22 MILLION FCC TELEHEALTH GRANT 
November 20, 2007 —  The University of California, in partnership with a coalition of government agencies, health care providers and others, received a three-year, $22 million award today from the Federal Communications Commission to help develop a new California Telehealth Network.

November 8, 2007 —  More than 100 physicians of UC Davis Health System have been identified as being among the United States' best doctors by an organization that bases its selections on surveys of other physicians.

CONGRESSWOMAN DORIS MATSUI SECURES FUNDING FOR SACRAMENTO REGION INITIATIVES 
November 7, 2007 —  Today, Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05) announced that the Labor, Health and Human Services (HHS), and Education appropriations bill (H.R. 3043) passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 269-142. November 29, 2006 —  Joining a nascent national movement, UC Davis Health System has adopted new measures to reduce the influence of pharmaceutical market on physicians and other staff. March 7, 2006 — UC Davis police late Monday night issued an Amber Alert and then successfully apprehended the suspect in a parental abduction from the pediatric ward of the UC Davis Children's Hospital.

BIOPHOTONICS HEADQUARTERS DEDICATED
January 30, 2006 — A new science — biophotonics — has a new center of operations. Quarters for the National Science Foundation-funded UC Davis Center for Biophotonics Science and Technology were dedicated Monday in the Oak Park Research Building at 2700 Stockton Blvd. Known as CBST, the biophotonics center is a research hub for roughly 100 investigators at nine institutions across the United States.

December 14, 2005 — A study by researchers at the UC Davis School of Medicine and Medical Center has found that 1.3 percent of the licensed gun retailers in the state sell 39.4 percent of the handguns used in violent crime, and that those retailers share similar profiles - pawn shops and retailers with a high rate of background-check failure are at higher risk for selling a handgun that will be used in a criminal act.
