Early identification and intervention are crucial for helping children with autism gain language, overcome challenging behaviors and improve social skills. “New Developments in Early Identification and Intervention” — the first in a new series of lectures designed to bring the community together with leading researchers — covers behavioral diagnosis and treatment strategies that can increase positive outcomes for children with autism. |

The lead speaker is Sally Rogers, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences who specializes in early diagnosis and developmental-behavioral interventions for children with autism. She is a specialist in developmental processes — imitation, social-communicative behavior, motor skills, language and social interaction patterns — and how those processes are affected by developmental disorders. Her current autism research includes an intervention study for toddlers that involves parents in delivering interventions at home. Laurie Vismara, an educational psychologist and certified behavior analyst, will also provide her perspectives on treatment research with young children with autism. |
