LECTURE
Pine to Speak on Current Research on Pediatric
Anxiety

— The UC
Davis M.I.N.D. Institute will host a special presentation
by Daniel S. Pine, chief of the section on development and affective
neuroscience at the National
Institute of Mental Health, on Friday, Feb. 4 at 9 a.m., at
the M.I.N.D. Institute,
2825 50th Street, Sacramento.
An expert on biological and pharmacological aspects of mood, anxiety
and behavioral disorders in children, Pine examines the degree
to which mood and anxiety disorders in children and adolescents
are associated with underlying abnormalities in specific brain
regions. He will discuss current research on developmental aspects
of human anxiety, considering both clinical research on longitudinal
outcomes and familial aggregation and neuroscience contributions.
His presentation is free and open to the public; no reservation
is needed.
Since graduating from medical school at the University of Chicago,
Pine has engaged continuously in research focusing on the epidemiology,
biology and treatment of psychiatric disorders in children and
adolescents. He has receive numerous awards, including Career
Development and R01 extramural grant support from NIMH, the NARSAD
(National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression)
Independent Investigator Award, and the Blanche Ittelson Award
from the American Psychiatric Association for outstanding research
contributions to the field of child psychiatry.
