LECTURE
Harris to Speak on Variants in Lesch-Nyhan Disease

— The UC
Davis M.I.N.D. Institute will host a presentation by James
C. Harris, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences
at Johns
Hopkins University, on Friday, January 21, at 9 a.m., at the
M.I.N.D. Institute, 2825
50th Street, Sacramento.
A prominent neuropsychiatrist and expert on Lesch-Nyhan disease,
Harris has evaluated and treated children, adolescents and adults
with intellectual disability for over 30 years. During his presentation,
Harris will discuss the consequences of Lesch-Nyhan disease on
brain and behavior, and emphasize the value of studying partial
variants of this and other neurogenetic syndromes. His presentation
is free and open to the public; no reservation is needed.
Harris is founding director of the developmental neuropsychiatry
program and co-founder of the autism program at Johns Hopkins.
His ground-breaking textbook, Developmental Neuropsychiatry, was
chosen the 1998 medical book of the year. Harris is a recipient
of the George Tarjan award from the American Academy of Child
and Adolescent Psychiatry for leadership and continuous contributions
in the field of mental retardation. He is a Distinguished Fellow
of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the American
Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and a member of the
American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, the American Association
on Mental Retardation, the Society for Neuroscience, the Society
for Research in Child Development, and the Sleep Research Society.
His honors include listings in Who’s Who in the World, Who’s
Who in America, and Who’s Who in Health Care.
