NATIONAL FRAGILE X AWARENESS DAY HIGHLIGHTS PROMISING RESEARCH

WHO: The University of California, Davis, M.I.N.D. Institute and the National Fragile X Foundation will present a seminar for patients and family members highlighting new research on fragile X syndrome, the most common cause of inherited mental retardation and one cause of autism and learning disabilities. The seminar is held in conjunction with National Fragile X Awareness Day.
   
WHAT: The nation’s leading fragile X physicians and scientists will present the latest advances in:

  • Molecular genetics

  • Fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia (FXTAS)

  • Early diagnosis

    BACKGROUND: The UC Davis M.I.N.D. (Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders) Institute is a collaborative center for research into the causes, preventions and treatments of neurodevelopmental disorders. The institute is home to the Fragile X Research and Treatment Center funded by the National Institutes of Child Health and Development (NICHD). The National Fragile X Foundation serves the fragile X community with information, referrals, emotional support, educational materials and conferences, research support and legislative advocacy.
