April 26, 2005
(SACRAMENTO, Calif.)
— — The UC Davis Medical Center Vascular
Lab will offer free screenings Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. to

the early detection of vascular diseases such as carotid artery
disease, aortic aneurysm and peripheral arterial disease. Vascular
disease can cause aortic aneurysms, which are the 10th-leading
cause of death in men over the age of 50.
Anyone over 59 years of age who has one or more of the following
risk factors is encouraged to register for a screening:
· Hypertension
· Diabetes mellitus
· A history of smoking
· Hypercholesterolemia
· Cardiovascular disease
Registered vascular technologists from the Vascular Lab at the
UC Davis Medical Center will perform carotid duplex ultrasound
scans, aortic ultrasound scans and Doppler tests for peripheral
arterial disease. Participants will have their blood pressures
measured and their heart rhythms recorded. In addition, UC Davis
vascular disease specialists will be available to answer questions
about blood vessel diseases.
All participants must pre-register by calling (916) 734-6249.
