(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) — UC Davis researchers are seeking mild-to-moderately overweight men and women in good health to participate as control subjects in a study of the potential benefits of magnesium supplements on asthma. The new subjects without asthma will not be asked to take any supplements. The participants will serve as the healthy “yardsticks” whose pulmonary, biochemical and other clinical attributes will be compared to subjects with asthma. To be eligible for the study, subjects must be between the ages of 21 and 55. Participants will be required to make four visits to the General Medicine Research Clinic at UC Davis Medical Center. Subjects will receive study-related tests, such as lung-function tests, blood tests and a physical examination, free of charge. Those who complete the study will receive up to $100.
