"BANKING ON CHANGE FOR CHILDREN" INITIATIVE LAUNCHED TO EXPAND UC DAVIS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION PROGRAM

WHAT: The UC Davis CAARE Center and Sacramento Commercial Bank join forces to launch the “Banking on Change for Children” initiative. This effort funds the expansion of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, an intervention with proven results in turning around the lives of families in which children have suffered abuse or neglect.
   
WHEN: Friday, May 5, 10:30 a.m.
   
WHERE: Sacramento Commercial Bank, 5th and J Streets, Suite 225.
Parking entrance at 6th Street between J and I.
   
WHO: Randall Reynoso, president and COO of Sacramento Commercial Bank, will present a $50,000 check to the CAARE Center and invite other members of the business community to participate in the initiative.

Giveaway banks for businesses committed to joining the “Banking on Change for Children” initiative. More than 4,000 commemorative banks, representing the more than 4,000 children in Sacramento County who are abused or neglected each year, will eventually be distributed.

Interviews with Reynoso; Anthony Urquiza, a UC Davis child psychologist, specialist in child maltreatment and nationwide leader in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy; Sandra Smoley, health consultant and board member of Sacramento Commercial Bank and UC Davis Children’s Hospital; and a parent who can attest to the benefits of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.
   
BACKGROUND: The CAARE (Child and Adolescent Abuse Resources and Evaluation) Center, a program of UC Davis Children’s Hospital, provides medical and mental-health services for children who have suffered abuse or neglect. The center utilizes Parent-Child Interaction Therapy to help families develop constructive, healthy relationships.
