"PAINTING FOR MIRACLES" AND THE HEALING POWER OF ART

October 12, 2006

WHAT:

Sacramento artist Keri Goulart says every day that she is grateful for the health of her child. She knows that not all parents can say the same. This is why she contributes her considerable talent every year to “Painting for Miracles,” an annual art auction that brings the region's creative community together to benefit Children's Miracle Network and UC Davis Children's Hospital.

Goulart's piece this year was inspired by the story of a young girl who received permanent physical injuries during childbirth, but who still collects coins from family and friends as a “change bandit” for a Children's Miracle Network's fundraising campaign. The outcome is a three-dimensional treasure that depicts coins being adeptly lassoed into the shape of a heart as part of a country-western roundup scene, highlighting the transformative power that comes from giving to others.

Goulart and more than 25 other artists representing diverse styles — graffiti, multimedia, airbrush illustration and more — donated pieces for this year's “Painting for Miracles” reception and silent auction. All of their work is created on wood and interprets stories from children who overcame significant medical challenges at Children's Miracle Network hospitals nationwide. Auction proceeds benefit UC Davis Children's Hospital.
