KVIE SPECIAL TARGETS CHILDHOOD OBESITY, FEATURES UC DAVIS CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL'S WEIGHT-MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

| WHAT: | KVIE's locally produced series “ViewFinder” features the issue of childhood obesity and the alarming rise of weight-related health issues among children and teenagers. Titled “Supersizing Our Kids,” the segment highlights the scope of the childhood obesity crisis, the impact of the food environment, how populations of color are especially affected, and important and useful information to help families make healthier choices. Interviewed during the program are Dennis Styne, chief of pediatric endocrinology at UC Davis Children's Hospital, and one of the patients of his pediatric weight-management clinic who is successfully making changes in his diet and physical activity habits. |

UC Davis Children's Hospital's pediatric weight-management program has provided assessments and guidance for overweight and obese children, teens and their families since 1999. The program was launched with financial support from the Yolo County Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians, which has partnered with the Children's Hospital to reduce the number of youth who are dealing with weight-related health issues, including type 2 diabetes.
