FROM THE WHITE HOUSE TO WALT DISNEY
WORLD
Local sixth grade student will be celebrated
by family, teachers and peers for being a “Champion Child”
May 20, 2004
| WHAT &
WHY: |
Mikie Bey, a sixth grade student
at
Isabelle Jackson Elementary School, has battled a severe
case of cystic fibrosis since infancy. Those who know Mikie
are aware that much of this battle takes place behind the
scenes. The daily treatments and frequent challenges of this
chronic illness are facts of life, but are not the most important
ones in his. That honor is reserved for shooting hoops with
his friends, singing and dancing to R&B hits and cheering
for his favorite team -- the Sacramento Kings.
Mikie is being honored this year as a 2004 Children’s
Miracle Network Champion
Child. This program honors remarkable children who have
triumphed despite severe medical challenges. For their courage,
tenacity and perseverance, these children are selected as
ambassadors for the 17 million kids treated each year at Children’s
Miracle Network Hospitals, like the UC
Davis Children’s Hospital.
Students, friends, family and teachers will honor Mikie and
learn about his trip to meet the President George W. Bush,
and his participation in the televised production of the Children’s
Miracle Network Celebration at Walt Disney World. |
