STATEWIDE CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION CAMPAIGN
TO BE LAUNCHED THROUGH LOCAL PARTNERSHIP
April 26, 2004
| WHAT: |
The UC Davis Children's Hospital
CAARE Center (Child and Adolescent Resource and Evaluation)
along with the California
Trucking Association and the
Rotary Club of Davis have partnered to conduct a public
awareness campaign for child abuse prevention. The campaign,
funded by Davis Rotary, features an ad – to be unveiled
at a news conference this Wednesday – soon appearing
on more than 500 “18-wheelers” across the state. In
Sacramento County alone, the cost of treating child abuse
exceeds $98 million. Less than 1 percent of this money funds
prevention. More children die from abuse and neglect than
any other single leading cause of death among infants and
children. Research shows that substantial decreases in child
abuse can occur by taking steps to prevent it from happening
in the first place. The UC Davis CAARE Center provides healing
and recovery for abused children and strives to generate awareness
about prevention. |
