NATIONAL CANCER SURVIVORS DAY CELEBRATION
UC Davis Cancer Center hosts weeklong series of programs celebrating survivorship

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) — Cancer survivors, their family members, friends and caregivers are invited to take part in a weeklong series of programs and events at UC Davis Cancer Center in celebration of National Cancer Survivors Day. All events will be held at UC Davis Cancer Center, 4501 X Street, Sacramento. All activities are free, but registration is required. Space is limited. Tuesday, May 29: It's About Living! Finding the New “Normal” After Cancer: Scott Christensen, M.D. and Richard Bold, M.D. will explore common reactions to life after cancer, and discuss immediate and long-term coping strategies. They will also talk about managing your physical, social and emotional health and answer your questions. Please join us for this special Learn at Lunch session, held in the Cancer Center auditorium from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday, May 30: Living Histories: Writing Your Story of Cancer Survivorship. Whether you're a survivor, caregiver or health-care provider, you have a story to share. This session will explore writing as a healing process and guide you in creating your own story of cancer survivorship to share with others. No writing experience is necessary. This workshop will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Cancer Center breakout rooms.
Thursday, May 31: Survivors Speak Out: What are the needs of cancer survivors in Sacramento? Survivors, caregivers and community members are invited to a forum aimed at answering this question. This is an opportunity for you to share your observations and insights with health-care professionals and community leaders. Join the discussion from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Cancer Center auditorium.
Friday, June 1: Adolescent & Young Adult Survivor Celebration: Join the UC Davis Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Advisory Board in an evening of music, photostories and sharing experiences from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Cancer Center auditorium.
Saturday, June 2: Survivors Picnic: Join us in celebrating survivors with a barbecue lunch, an exhibit of art by cancer survivors, special presentations including a demonstration on making an herbal skin-care salve by the UC Davis American Indian Advisory Council, special activities for children, informational booths and community exhibits. The picnic will take place in front of the Cancer Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and lunch will be provided courtesy of Outback Steakhouse to the first 300 registered participants.
