TIME TO CLOSE IN ON A CURE

Fundraiser to benefit breast cancer research at UC Davis Cancer Center

October 20, 2005

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) The Brighton Collectibles Store in the Galleria at Roseville will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each “breast cancer awareness bracelet” purchased at the store during the month of October to breast cancer research at the UC Davis Cancer Center.

The fundraiser was organized by the South Placer Breast Cancer Endowment. Formed in July 2005, the group has pledged to raise $1.5 million in five years to fund an endowed chair in breast cancer research at UC Davis.

“This fundraiser is the beginning of what will be a collective effort by many individuals to support the good work of the brilliant scientists at UC Davis,” said Carol Garcia, chair of the South Placer Breast Cancer Endowment and an executive at Granite Community Bank.

The 2005 bracelet has a watch charm symbolizing that it's time to close in on a cure. It sells for $50. To view the bracelet, visit www.brighton.com.

“The South Placer Breast Cancer Endowment is thrilled to have been selected by the Roseville Brighton Store management team to share in the local proceeds from the 2005 Brighton bracelet,” said Julia Burrows, secretary of the South Placer Breast Cancer Endowment and Roseville's deputy city manager. “We encourage all of you who are looking for a special gift to support this fundraising effort and purchase a limited-edition bracelet at the Galleria during October.”

The South Placer Breast Cancer Endowment is modeled after the Auburn Community Cancer Endowment Fund, which has raised $1.2 million to date to endow the Basic Sciences Chair at the UC Davis Cancer Center. To learn more about the new group, visit www.wethinkpink.org.

UC Davis Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute-designated center serving the Central Valley and inland Northern California, is a program of the UC Davis School of Medicine and Medical Center.
