“2ND SATURDAY — WITH A CAUSE” TO RAISE FUNDS FOR LEUKEMIA-LYMPHOMA RESEARCH
Annual Fair Oaks benefit features food, refreshments, live music, raffle and silent auction
August 18, 2005
(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) — Enjoy food, refreshments, live music, a raffle and silent auction on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Return to the Secret Garden, 10119 Fair Oaks Blvd. in Fair Oaks. Proceeds from the benefit will support leukemia-lymphoma research at UC Davis Cancer Center.
The first “2nd Saturday — With a Cause” was held in 1998 to honor the memory of Sandi Schwedler, a longtime Fair Oaks resident who died of lymphoma at age 50. Jim Schwedler, her husband of 17 years, started the tradition and has carried it out every year since. The benefit coincides with Fair Oak’s monthly Second Saturday art gallery event.
In addition to funds raised through the silent auction and raffle, Return to the Secret Garden, a home decor and gift boutique, also donates profits from its sales during the benefit.
Nearly 64,000 Americans are diagnosed each year with lymphoma, and nearly 35,000 learn they have leukemia.
The Leukemia, Lymphoma and Multiple Myeloma Program at UC Davis Cancer Center is the largest and most comprehensive program of its kind in inland Northern California. It provides advanced methods of diagnosis and treatment for both adults and children, including new therapies that often aren’t available at community hospitals.
