UC DAVIS HOSTS STEM-CELL PANEL DISCUSSION
May 2, 2005
(SACRAMENTO, Calif.)
— A panel of medical experts, legislative
advocates and community representatives will discuss the impact
of Proposition 71 and how cutting edge stem-cell research programs
will be developed on Wednesday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the UC Davis
Cancer Center Auditorium, located at 4501
X Street in Sacramento.
The discussion, entitled Prop 71 and Stem Cells: Where do we go
From Here? is sponsored by the UC
Davis Center for Healthy Aging and is free of charge and open
to the public, but reservations are required.
Joan Samuelson, president of the Parkinson’s
Action Network; Val Siebel, government relations liaison with
the Juvenile
Diabetes Foundation; and Claire Pomeroy, vice chancellor for
Human Health Sciences and dean of the UC
Davis School of Medicine, will discuss issues surrounding
the research that Proposition 71 makes possible.
Pomeroy is also a member of the statewide oversight committee
charged with distributing the $3 billon in Proposition 71 research
funding approved by voters last year.
Maxine Milner Krugman, president of the Parkinson’s Association
and chair of the Sacramento Senior Safe House, will moderate the
90-minute event.
“Proposition 71 passed and the public needs to know what
will happen as a result. Most people have at least one family
member who could benefit from stem-cell research,” said
Krugman.
For reservations, call the UC Davis Center for Healthy Aging events
line at (916) 734-6441. Free parking will be provided.
