FORMER RESIDENT HELPS TO RAISE $10,000 FOR STUDENT-RUN CLINICS

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) -- Serotonin Surge Charities, founded by former Family and Community Medicine resident John Chuck, donated $10,000 to the School of Medicine in September.

The gift was made in honor of David Wisner, professor of surgery, who was recognized for his academic achievements, dedication to clinical medicine and exemplary relationships with patients and their families. This is the second consecutive year that "The Surge" has helped support the operations of the school's student-run clinics, which provide a valuable service to the community while giving undergraduates, medical students and UC Davis residents a unique environment to learn about the delivery of medical care.

"I've always been a big fan of the medical school and its commitment to train primary care physicians," said Chuck, a former attending physician at the Paul Hom Asian Clinic and current associate clinical professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. "Our board of directors feels privileged to be able to support these clinics and the dedicated staff and volunteers who make them so successful."

Established in 1999, Serotonin Surge Charities has raised more than $100,000 for health-care related organizations and college scholarship funds.
