NEW STUDENT-RUN CLINIC OPENS IN SACRAMENTO
(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) --UC Davis medical students have another community clinic designed to deliver free medical care to underserved parts of the Sacramento area.
The Shifa Clinic, at 419 V Street, Suite A in Sacramento, is operated by medical students under the supervision of licensed physicians. It is open to patients of all ages and backgrounds, but has a special emphasis on meeting the health-care needs of women. The clinic aims to provide a "safety net" for local immigrant and indigent populations that typically have poor access to health care.
Staffed entirely by volunteers, including UC Davis medical school faculty, undergraduate students, medical students and community members, the clinic works to educate patients and deliver basic medical care, such as physical examinations, immunizations, prenatal and well-baby checkups, and preventive care.
The other community clinics run by medical students include the Paul Hom Asian Clinic, Clinica Tepati and Imani Clinic.
