MEMORIAL SERVICE SET FOR UC DAVIS PHYSICIAN RICARDO GONZALES

(DAVIS, Calif.) -- A memorial service for Ricardo Gonzales, an internal medicine physician with UC Davis Medical Group in Davis, will be held on Sunday, Nov. 4, from 2-5 p.m. at the Vacaville Opera House, 560 Main St., Vacaville.

Gonzales died on Friday, Sept. 28, at UC Davis Medical Center after a short illness. He was 47.

Gonzales was born on Jan. 6, 1954, in Corpus Christi, Texas. A 1972 graduate of Live Oak High School in San Martin, Calif., he received his bachelor's degree from Arizona State University in 1988 and his medical degree from the University of Arizona in 1993. He served an internship at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center from 1993-94, and served his residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from 1994-96. He initially was hired by UC Davis Medical Group as a physician for its Vacaville office in 1996. He joined the Davis office in May 1999.

Prior to beginning his training as a physician, Gonzales had been employed as a farm worker and an electrician.

Gonzales is survived by his wife, Ana Maria Martel; three brothers, Daniel Rodriguez of La Quinta, Calif.; Miguel Rodriguez of Gilroy, Calif.; and Rodolfo Gonzales of Hollister, Calif.; two sisters, Maria Santana of Gilroy, Calif.; and Elia Flanagan of Sunnyvale, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gonzales' name to the University of Iowa Foundation, P.O. Box 4550, Iowa City, Iowa 52244.
