UC DAVIS TO
OFFER HEALTH SCREENINGS FOR OLDER ADULTS
Screening planned for Veterans' Day, November 11
(Sacramento, CA) - UC Davis health professionals and medical students will provide free health screening for older adults on Saturday, November 11 from noon to 4 p.m. near the west steps of the Capital.
George Xakellis, M.D., director of the UC Davis Center or Healthy Aging, said screening will be provided by the Geriatric Outreach Program of the UC Davis School of Medicine as part of Sacramento's Veterans' Day festivities. He said, "The Geriatrics Outreach Program is a new program that helps tomorrow's doctors become better educated about the health concerns of the older population while providing service to the community."
Older adults will be screened for high blood pressure, diabetes, vision problems, cognitive impairment and memory loss. UC Davis doctors and medical professionals will be available for consultations, referrals and community resource information about heart disease and stroke, nutrition, cognitive impairment, sensory loss, medication use, caregiving, and men's and women's health issues.
Other organizations participating in the Veterans' Day health sreening will be the City of Sacramento Active Aging Project, the Adult and Aging Commission for the County of Sacramento, Del Oro Caregiver's Resource Center and the Office of Senator Deborah Ortiz.
