Specialties

The Department of Neurology specializes in a wide range of patient services from diagnosing an illness to the management of chronic neurological disorders. In addition to patient care, many specialty physicians actively engage in clinical and basic science research.

The department routinely offers clinics for specific disorders, including genetic and metabolic illnesses. Some clinics offer patients opportunities to participate in cutting edge research.

Neurology teams often cross disciplines to maximize research expertise and the quality of patient care. Beside physicians, these well-rounded specialty teams may include research associates, nurses, technicians, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists and behavioral specialists.

Neurology teams provide inpatient and outpatient care in quality facilities. For example, patients needing clinical neurophysiology tests are greeted by certified staff in state-of-the-art laboratories. On the other hand, patients needing emergency care because of a stroke are housed in a small unit, which strives for personalized care and no more than three patients per nurse.

The department also works with the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute to provide special clinics for children with neurological disorders, including Down syndrome and epilepsy.
