Behavioral Neurology, Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia

The department offers a weekly Memory Disorders Clinic for the evaluation of cognitive and behavioral disorders. At least one neurology resident staffs the clinic alongside Charles DeCarli, M.D., director of the UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Center, and his colleagues, John Olichney, M.D., Sarah Ferrias, Ph.D., Bruce Reed, Ph.D., and Dan Mungas, Ph.D.

The center conducts a broad range of research, but strengths include Alzheimer's disease, cerebrovascular disease, neuropsychology, statistics, neuroimaging and cross-cultural research. In addition, the center supports clinical trials that test new agents for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The National Institute on Aging and the California Department of Health Services supports center research.

The UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Center works closely with the Imaging of Dementia and Aging Laboratory (IDeA Lab), where imaging research is performed in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), functional MRI, positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). The IDeA Lab is located on the UC Davis campus at the Center for Neuroscience, room 510.
