Dr. Gardner was the PI of the initial CFAR of UC Davis (1988-1994). He is a pathologist with many years of interest and research in comparative retrovirology using animal models in relation to cancer (wild mice and cats), and more recently, AIDS (macaques and cats). Although now Emeritus, he continues his teaching and research activities on a daily basis as a member of the CCM.
