My major research focus has been on mechanisms of HIV pathogenesis, surrogate markers, and evaluation of antiretroviral therapy. I also have a clinical laboratory background in HIV isolation, antigen assay, serology, viral load monitoring using PCR, RT-PCR, and bDNA, in situ hybridization, HIV genotyping and phenotyping.
I am currently working on: genotypic analysis of HIV in several completed and ongoing AIDS vaccine trials; a comparative evaluation of cellular activation in HIV-infected cohorts; and the assessment of mutations associated with drug resistance and clinical outcome in HIV-infected patients.
