Developmental Awards
The Developmental Core of the NCCFAR funds meritorious pilot projects in clinical, epidemiological, social, behavioral, basic science, nonhuman primate, and translational research that encompass aspects of HIV infection. One year grants of $10,000 to $35,000 fund pilot projects by junior investigators, postdoctoral fellows and established investigators new to AIDS research. Investigators are encouraged to submit collaborative multidisciplinary research projects. The criteria for awards will favor projects in areas of NCCFAR emphasis, which include mucosal infection and immunology, epithelial cell health, and nutrition. Studies in basic science, animal models, clinical care, and epidemiology will all be considered. Please note: reapplication of projects not funded the previous year are not precluded from review.
The developmental program funding cycle is currently closed.
The Developmental Core also provides funding to junior investigators and graduate students for short-term training. Funds will allow them to visit laboratories of their collaborators or other investigators to receive short-term training in needed methodology, assays or data analysis. The funding supports travel, lodging, and per diem for a short stay ranging from 3 days to one month. The amount of award may not exceed $2,500.
There will be no specific deadline for the receipt of the Short-term Training Award Application. As and when need arises, researchers are encouraged to apply for funding support.
