Research

Dr. Berman is Director of Research for the Department of Neurological Surgery at UC Davis, and a faculty member at the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute and the Center for Neuroscience.   He is also Co-director with Dr. Jacqueline Crawley of Core E, Animal Models, within the UC Davis IDDRC.  Dr. Berman’s research is broadly focused on understanding  the causes and cellular mechanisms of Fragile X-associated disorders (i.e., Fragile-X premutation, FXTAS), autism and traumatic brain injury.  Current research is using transgenic mouse models to understand the disease processes underlying these disorders, as well as to develop and test pharmacological and molecular treatment strategies to improve neurological function.
