Elder Abuse
It is our goal to develop statewide a "best-practice" model that promotes effective collaboration of physicians, allied health professionals, Adult Protective Services and law enforcement in the identification, evaluation and management of victims of elder and dependent-adult-abuse and neglect.
Goals and Objectives
- Standardizing medical reporting and protocols Currently, no statewide standardized protocols exist for performing, documenting elder abuse by health care providers.
- Increase knowledge and skills of health care providers by teaching ways to detect the subtle signs of abuse that otherwise would go undetected.
- Increase knowledge about prevention and intervention Although legislation has mandated that elder abuse be reported, it is still estimated that only 1 in every 6 cases of suspected abuse is actually reported.
