Bera-Sweeney College

The Bera College was introduced in the Spring of 2004, with full implementation when the Class of 2008 began medical school. The initial group of students based the college upon four principals:

The college is organized into small family units, each family consisting of one student from each class and with one faculty member as the "head of household." By structuring in this manner, the hope is a student will develop vertical relationships across all four classes, and over the course of four years will develop a personal relationship with their college faculty mentor.

The incoming student can anticipate to be placed within a college family about one month prior to the start of the school year. Having these three older siblings proves valuable in helping ease the transition into medical school, as well as to providing valuable assistance in the transition through each phase of medical school.
