2006 Morton Levitt Student Research Award

Deadline: Friday, May 19, 2006

The School of Medicine annually offers research stipends to medical students wishing to conduct biomedical research. The purpose is to stimulate an interest in and an appreciation for biomedical research. It is hoped that the student will, during the course of studies, discuss a possible research project in the area of his/her interest with a faculty sponsor. A stipend in the amount of $2,000 will go directly to the student and is intended to recognize the merit of the proposal as well as to provide some financial compensation for the time spent on the project. The proposals will be reviewed for scientific merit and adequacy of the research environment and ranked by a faculty committee.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITY: The student is responsible for preparing and submitting the proposal. The proposal should be submitted with the attached application form.

FACULTY RESPONSIBILITY: The signature of the faculty sponsor is assurance that he/she will provide supervision, guidance, the necessary equipment and supplies, and laboratory space for the project.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING PROPOSALS: The proposal must be submitted to the Office of Research, c/o Patricia Robinson, CRISP Bldg, Rm. 1424, UCDMC, by May 19, 2006. The Predoctoral Research Fellowship Committee will review and rank the proposals, and stipends will be awarded in July 2006.

Note: Research completed under this program may be submitted for the Loren D. Carlson Research Award.

Policy: Awards are restricted to students with UCD School of Medicine faculty mentors, except where compelling justification is presented on a case-by-case basis.
