Ann Madden Rice to be honored as Businesswoman of the Year by Sacramento Metro Chamber

The annual awards honor outstanding leaders for contributions to the region

Sacramento community leaders, including Ann Madden Rice, chief executive officer of UC Davis Medical Center, will be honored by the Sacramento Metro Chamber at its Annual Dinner & Business Awards event to be held at the Hyatt Regency on Jan. 27.

Ann Madden Rice For the 122nd consecutive year, the Sacramento Metro Chamber will gather to salute its outgoing and incoming chair. During the ceremony, distinguished honors and awards are also presented to exceptional Sacramento community leaders. Rice will be honored as Businesswoman of the Year.

“Ann has been a very visible leader in the Capital region and her work to enhance and grow the UC Davis Medical Center has had major impacts on our region,” said Peter Tateishi, president and CEO of the Sacramento Metro Chamber. “She is a champion for the Sacramento business community and has advocated for our region at the state and federal levels to ensure that not only the UC Davis Medical Center but the entire region is a beneficiary.”

The Businesswoman of the Year award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to the development of business and the region’s economy. Nominees are evaluated by a committee comprised of Metro Chamber board members and previous winners.

“UC Davis Medical Center has thrived under Ann’s 10-year leadership, consistently ranking among the nation’s and state’s best hospitals,” said Julie Freischlag, vice chancellor for human health sciences and dean of the School of Medicine at UC Davis. “This recognition for her contributions to the Sacramento region is well-deserved, and reflects her dedication to a healthy, vibrant community. I thank Ann for her commitment to our patients and our employees, and I congratulate her on this award.”

Others to be recognized at the annual event include Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson, who will be presented with the Sacramentan of the Year award, and Sacramento Kings President Chris Granger, who will receive Businessman of the Year recognition.

In 2014, 2013 and 2012, Rice was named among Becker’s Hospital Review’s “Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.” She also received the Senior Level Healthcare Executive Award from the California Association of Healthcare Leaders, the Muncie Gold Merit Award from Healthcare Financial Management Association during her tenure at UC Davis.
