Shelton Duruisseau

Chief Administrative and Professional Services Officer
UC Davis Medical Center

Shelton Duruisseau is a chief officer of UC Davis Medical Center and serves as its executive director for legislative and community affairs. He oversees public affairs, marketing, government relations, community relations and advancement activities, and plays a key role in UC Davis Health System's effort to ensure equal opportunity and a diverse work force.

Through Duruisseau’s leadership at UC Davis Medical Center, more than 100,000 regional residents enjoy crucial health care screenings each year. He has championed these public outreach efforts because early detection and prevention can help mitigate rising health care costs for cities like California’s capital.

Duruisseau’s volunteer role in the Sacramento area is equally distinguished. He has long been a community leader and public services advocate. He has served on boards for several community-based groups, and has helped provide organizations such as the St. HOPE Academy, Sacramento Urban League, and local schools in the Oak Park neighborhood with much-needed volunteer and financial resources.

Due to his tireless efforts and community service, Duruisseau has received numerous awards and honors. He is the recipient of the prestigious National Humanitarian Award from the Arthritis Foundation. For leadership in the field of health and commitment to community services, he earned the Trial Blazer Award from the Sacramento Coalition of Black Professionals. In recognition of his dedication to the Hispanic community, he received the President’s Award from the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his external affairs responsibilities, Duruisseau also oversees professional services, information and communication services, facilities design and construction and human resources staff at UC Davis Health System.

Duruisseau earned his Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and has completed postgraduate certification programs in health system management at Harvard and Stanford universities. A 28-year resident of Sacramento, Duruisseau and his wife Maxine have two children and six grandchildren.
