Why UC Davis
UC Davis is different. We have a smaller number of biomedical basic scientists and less emphasis on specialty training than some other academic medicine centers. However, we do have several major biomedical research programs, a collegial environment, diverse multidisciplinary opportunities, superb clinical training and most importantly, dedicated teachers and mentors.
A campus-wide integrated graduate school program that fosters interaction between scientists and students with different areas of research expertise in part provides the diversity of opportunities that characterize UC Davis. The physical proximity and collaborations between School of Medicine faculty and members of the Division of Biological Sciences, the Schools of Veterinary Medicine, Engineering, Mathematics and Agriculture provide a unique environment. Other extraordinary resources include programs in nutritional science and neurodevelopmental disorders, a world class primate center, and emerging programs in genomics and bioinformatics. In addition to the wide array of UC Davis School of Medicine and campus programs there are also affiliated offsite mentors at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and within or industrial liaisons (one of our students is in a laboratory at Genentech).
We have a small but vibrant M.D./Ph.D. Program with a group of outstanding students. Explore this Web site for specific details on research programs and faculty members.
