This drug is a member of the DDP-4 inhibitors class.

How DDP-4 inhibitors work

  • Increases insulin when blood sugar is high, especially after you eat
  • Reduces the amount of sugar made by your liver after you eat, when your body doesn’t need it

Guidelines for use

  • It should be taken once per day by people who have Type 2 diabetes
  • It can be taken as alone or in combination with Metformin or Actos/Avandia
  • If moderate or severe kidney disease is present, a dose adjustment is recommended

What to do if a dose is forgotten

  • Resume your usual dose the next day
  • Do not take 2 doses the next time

Side effects

  • Upper respiratory infection, headache, infection in nose/throat, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea

Who should NOT take this medication

  • People with Type 1 diabetes
  • Pregnant women
