November 12, 2014
Ladson Hinton, professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, has been appointed to an ad hoc study committee of the Institute of Medicine, Family Caregiving for Older Adults. The committee will examine unmet needs for caregivers and caregiving, such as differences in needs associated with race, ethnicity and other factors, and progress in delivery reform.
Hinton is a geriatric psychiatrist affiliated with the UC Davis Alzheimer’s Disease Center and director of the Latino Aging Research Resource Center. The ad hoc committee will investigate government and private-sector policies and actions to increase meaningful involvement of and support for caregivers in existing medical homes and community care settings, and new models of integrated health and long-term care settings. It will develop recommendations for health-care delivery system reform and other policies and actions to reduce the difficulties encountered by family caregivers of older adults.
