Golden 1 Partners with Internal Medicine - People Helping People
Medical education – training the physicians, physician-researchers and physician-educators of tomorrow – is a top priority for the UC Davis Department of Internal Medicine.
“While we are totally committed to producing the finest physicians for the Central Valley and beyond,” explains department chair Frederick J. Meyers, “our ability to lend support to that goal is limited financially.”
Enter the Golden 1 Credit Union and Maria Cornelius. A board member at The Golden 1, Cornelius is also Meyers’ longtime friend. She brought the two organizations together to form The Golden 1 Fund for Medical Education. The goal is $1.5 million, and $750,000 has been raised to date.
Cornelius raises grass-roots support for the fund, in her words, “to help provide a terrific resource for our region that any of us might need in the future.
Contributing to the value of education at UC Davis is my way of giving something back.” Terry Halleck, CEO at The Golden 1, says, “the fund reflects the ‘People Helping People’ philosophy. We want a valuable, worthwhile way to support the community and to help ensure that the best physicians stay in this area.” The fund also will help UC Davis sustain its worldwide reputation as a leading academic medical institution.
Meyers adds, “The Golden 1 Fund enhances our efforts to reach our ultimate goal: improving the health of the community through medical education.”
